The problem we work on
School timetabling is a constraint optimization problem involving teacher availability, class conflicts, subject requirements, teaching workloads, session limits, and many school-specific rules.
Cherry Scheduler is being developed to make this process faster, easier to manage, and more accessible to school administrators.
What Cherry Scheduler does
- Lets schools enter classes, teachers, subjects and teaching assignments in one place.
- Captures scheduling rules such as teacher availability, subject requirements, session limits and school-specific constraints.
- Generates feasible timetables with a constraint-based scheduling and optimization engine, then improves timetable quality by reducing unnecessary teacher sessions and gaps.
- Lets administrators review and adjust timetables and export them to Excel or Word.
How we build
Cherry Scheduler runs in production on a Rust backend, a Python OR-Tools CP-SAT solver on Google Cloud Run, and a drag-and-drop web planner. It is verified on a school of 75 classes, 125 teachers and about 2,200 lessons per week.
The product is developed by a solo founder working with Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant, to build, test and ship the software and to prepare each school's data from its raw spreadsheets.
Next, we are exploring Claude-powered onboarding inside the product: importing school spreadsheets, turning teachers' written requests into scheduling constraints, and explaining in plain language why a timetable is infeasible. These AI features are not part of the product yet.
